After the drainage system is established, fill the remaining area with a free-draining material (avoiding heavy clay). Compress the soil in layers to minimize the risk of future settling.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

Once you've backfilled, cut away any extra geotextile fabric and ensure that your drainage outlets are clearly visible. To safeguard the top of the wall, consider applying capping or a protective coating if you're using steel sleepers.

Lastly, landscape the area surrounding your new retaining wall. Consider adding plants, mulch, or decorative gravel to improve its aesthetic appeal. If you intend to construct a fence or deck on top, consult with an engineer to confirm that the wall can adequately bear the additional weight.
